West Texas Elementary School
The mission of West Texas Elementary is to provide our children with the skills to become proactive, productive citizens of the twenty-first century.
Our website is our primary way to get information to parents of West Texas Elementary students. As soon as information becomes available, we will post it on this page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the West Texas Elementary office at 878-2103.
Please read this important information regarding our continued school closure through May 4, 2020.
Rest assured, we are committed to providing continued instruction and support for our families. We know this is a difficult situation for all. Please contact your child's teacher or the main office if you need assistance.
Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, and with the Governor’s Executive order today, Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips CISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations until May 4, 2020, in an effort to support our nation’s need to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. Our health officials report that cases are continuing to spread in the state. Suspending operations for this length of time will allow us to determine, in coordination with local health officials, whether the virus is continuing to have community spread or whether it has been contained.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. We want to reiterate a request to our broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness:
· Don’t shake hands
· Wash your hands regularly
· Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)
· If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups
· For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms.
· If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice.
· Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold.
· Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care
This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the community in Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips CISD stay safe and healthy.

Important Information & Frequently Asked Questions
The West Texas Elementary staff have worked diligently to prepare distance learning materials for our students as well as to establish communications systems for providing support to families, and we greatly appreciate your patience as we set up and roll out these systems. We know that this is a unique situation and can be very stressful for everyone. Although our instruction looks different than usual, please know that we are committed to providing continued quality instruction for our students, and we are here to help you!
We are mindful of the challenges that this situation has created for many families, and we are doing our best to limit the amount of coursework that we ask the students to complete and also to be selective with the types of assignments that we provide to students. Many teachers are offering online learning via Google Classroom or have provided electronic copies of the assignments on their websites for your convenience. However, we are happy to provide you with a paper copy of the coursework if needed. Also, if you would like additional instructional materials for your child, many of the teachers have added educational website information to their webpages for you to use at your discretion. If you’d like additional p.e., music, character counts, and library resources for your child while he/she is learning at home, Coach Seymour, Miss Bell, Mrs. Graves, and Mrs. VanHuss have also added some fun optional activities to their webpages.
All of our teachers have updated their West Texas Elementary webpages with important instructional and contact information in hopes of providing you a "one-stop-shop" for information. We hope that this uniform platform for communication makes it easy for you to access information. To access the teachers' pages, select “Elementary Faculty” at the top of our webpage and choose your child’s grade level.

For the week of March 23-25, coursework was rolled out to families as it was ready. Coursework for the week of March 30-April 3, will be available to families on Monday, March 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Should we not be able to return to school as usual on Monday, April 6, coursework will continue to be available for pick-up each Monday until we are able to reopen.
Additionally, Mr. Wiggins is working to have FREE WiFi HOTSPOTS placed in designated locations in the community. As soon as the WiFi hotspots are up and running, we will communicate WiFi access information to families.
As stressful as this time may be, we hope our families can enjoy this time together and stay safe and healthy. We miss our kiddos dearly and can't wait to get back to "normal" so that we can be with them again! Until then, please do not hesitate to contact the main office or your child's teacher if there is anything that we can do to help you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find information about the instructional supports/coursework that is being provided for students?
Each teacher has updated his/her West Texas Elementary webpage to include information about the instructional supports and coursework that he/she is providing to students. Their webpages also include information about other supports that each teacher is offering to help their students be successful, such as Zoom conferences to allow students and parents to ask questions.

What do I do if I need supplies for my child while he/she is learning at home?
Contact the main office, and we will do our best to provide you with all the needed supplies.
When will students be able to return to school?
We wish we could give you a concrete answer to this question, but we do not know at this time. At this point, we are planning to return back to routine, in-school instruction on May 4, 2020. However, we must follow guidance from Governor Abbott, the Center for Disease Control, and our local health authority.
How should we submit completed work?
The safest way to submit completed work is to submit it electronically. This can be achieved by taking a photo of the work and emailing it to your child's teacher(s) or submitting it via Google Classroom if your child's teacher is providing assignments through the Google Classroom platform. Sometimes regular photos do not email well. However, if you own an iPhone, you can open the "Notes" application, choose the "camera" icon at the bottom of the page, select "Scan Documents," scan all of the documents to be submitted, and then email them to your child's teacher.
We will accept completed paper packets if needed but would prefer to receive documents electronically if at all possible. Completed work will be accepted each Monday during packet pick-up.
How can I get meals for my children?
Families can pick up meals (breakfast & lunch) each weekday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The pick-up location is behind the West Texas Elementary School Cafeteria. Meals are free of charge to children ages 1-18, and the children do not have to attend PSPCISD to receive a meal. If you choose to pick-up a meal(s) for your family, please remain in your car, and PSP staff will deliver the meals to your vehicle.
Daily Zoom Conferences by Grade-Level
Zoom conferences are being offered each weekday in an effort to provide families with support and an opportunity to ask questions and to get assistance with coursework. Individual Zoom conferences are also available upon request. Please contact your child's teacher(s) by email to request a private Zoom conference.
